It’s Monday night. Maybe you have a big presentation at work the next day, or a first date planned for the evening. Whatever the reason, you want to get some rest… but you just can’t. The worst part is, you’ve tried everything: sticking to a schedule, practicing breathing techniques, avoiding your phone an hour before bed. We’ve all been there. Some nights, nothing seems to work.
This scenario is all too common, but it doesn’t have to be. Enter CBD sleep products! Whether you’re a total newbie or just didn’t know that CBD may help with sleep issues, it’s time to consider how this all-natural method might just be able to help you fall asleep and stay asleep.
Sleep Stats & Tips
Poor sleep isn’t just an annoyance that keeps you from having an enjoyable or productive day. The list of unwanted effects goes beyond a lack of energy to encompass everything from an inability to focus, a weakened immune system, and worst of all: anxiety and depression.
The thing is, you’re not alone: 70% of adults in the US are not getting a good night’s rest at least once a month, according to the CDC. (They even go so far as to call it an epidemic!) The reasons for this run the gamut, but most of us can relate to working long hours and spending too much time on our cell phones. (Hello, doomscrolling!)
Many of us are also probably familiar with the most common tips for improving sleep:
- Maintaining a regular sleep schedule
- Creating a relaxing bedtime routine
- Adjusting your environment to be conducive to sleep (dark, quiet, comfy, cool)
- Exercising regularly
- Avoiding caffeine 3-5 hours before bedtime
- Staying off your phone and keeping other screens out of the bedroom
But what about when these methods aren’t cutting it? You want to try a sleep aid, but you’d prefer something that’s all-natural. You’ve likely heard of melatonin, the hormone that regulates the sleep cycle. You can find a bottle of melatonin capsules at any pharmacy (or online, of course). But there’s another all-natural method that may help with sleep issues: CBD!
CBD Sleep Research
More and more people are turning to CBD sleep products for battling insomnia and other sleep disorders. One of the reasons that CBD for insomnia may be effective is by targeting the root causes of insomnia, which can include physical pain and anxiety.
More specific sleep-related research has found that CBD may be able to help with REM sleep behavior disorder and excessive daytime sleepiness. According to the Sleep Foundation, some people who use CBD for chronic pain report sleeping better, with initial studies of CBD and sleep disorders suggesting potentially helpful outcomes.
In addition to its potential ability to help target anxiety and pain, CBD sleep products are an attractive all-natural alternative to prescription medications because you get all the benefits without the dreaded morning grogginess. Win-win!
Now that you know a bit more about how and why CBD may help sleep, the next question is naturally: which CBD sleep product is right for you?
For a consistent dosage, go with gummies.
One of the main differences between gummies and oils is that gummies will have the same amount of CBD in each dose, whereas oils allow you to get more or less depending on how much you fill the dropper. CBD sleep gummies also must be digested and then metabolized before passing into the bloodstream, so they take a bit longer to work.
Many CBD for sleep gummies –including our CBD Night Gummies – are also formulated with melatonin, the naturally occurring hormone that regulates sleep cycles. When used in combination with one another, the calming effects of CBD may be able to enhance melatonin’s ability to induce quality sleep.
We recommend taking CBD gummies 1-2 hours before bed. Start out with 1 or 2 gummies, then work your way up or down depending on your body’s reaction and needs.
For fast-acting CBD, go with oils.
As we mentioned, your body can absorb oils more quickly, which makes CBD sleep oil the go-to choice if you’re looking for a fast-acting option. Oil is the most effective delivery of CBD, as the absorption rate is said to increase by 20% when taken under the tongue. If you’ve never heard of taking CBD oil like this before (also known by its fancy science term: sublingually), it’s simple: all you do is fill the tincture to the appropriate graduated marking and squeeze under the tongue. Then let the oil absorb for 30 seconds and voilà!
CBD oils can also be mixed into food and drink (yum, a splash of mint in your chamomile tea!) but it will work faster when taken under the tongue. Take the oil 1-2 hours before bed if you’re adding to food/drink and 30 minutes before bed if under the tongue.
In our CBD Night Oil, which contains no sugar but does have a tasty mint flavor, one full dropper contains 16.6mg of CBD and 5mg of melatonin. Because of how CBD oils are taken, you are able to adjust dosage amounts, as opposed to gummies which will have the same amount of CBD in each gummy. But when it comes to CBD Night Oil, do not exceed one dose per night.
CBD Sleep Topicals & Beyond
